Divine Justice Awaits: Iran's Grand Ayatollah Declares Blood Vengeance a Sacred Duty

Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi has called upon the Islamic Ummah to fulfill its duty in seeking blood vengeance for the martyred leader of the Islamic Revolution, stressing that the perpetrators of this great crime will not escape divine retribution.

Hawzah News Agency- In a message issued as the nation bid farewell to the martyred leader, the senior cleric declared: "The killers and perpetrators of this great crime—whose hands are stained with the blood of that beloved martyr, commanders, officials, defenseless civilians, and innocent children—shall not remain immune from divine punishment and just retribution. The Islamic Ummah, within the framework of religious and legal standards, will pursue its duty in avenging the blood of these martyrs."

Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi urged massive public participation in the funeral and farewell ceremonies, warning against any attempts to sow despair among the people. "The war is not over," he stated. "Therefore, any propagation of hopelessness, weakness, deadlock, or demoralization among the people, officials, and armed forces serves the enemy's designs and runs contrary to the interests of the country and the Islamic Ummah."

Velayat-e Faqih: The Pillar of the System

The senior religious authority underscored allegiance to the principle of Velayat-e Faqih (Guardianship of the Jurist) as a collective duty, stating: "The Islamic Revolution is founded upon the progressive principle of Velayat-e Faqih, and it is by the blessing of this very principle that it has traversed difficult passes and overcome the numerous conspiracies of its enemies. Velayat-e Faqih in the Islamic system is the axis of unity, the guardian of the Ummah's interests, and the firm pillar of the system. Adherence to it is a universal duty and the means of safeguarding Islam and the country."

The full text of the Grand Ayatollah's message reads as follows:

In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

"Indeed, we belong to God and to Him we shall return."

As the pure body of the martyred leader of the Revolution is laid to rest, the searing pain of losing that sage mujahid has been renewed. Without a doubt, the massive presence of the people at these ceremonies is a manifestation of might and loyalty to the lofty ideals of the Islamic Revolution, a sign of the steadfastness of the great Iranian nation and the Islamic Ummah, and a testament to the continuation of the luminous path of the martyrs.

Under these circumstances, attention to several points is essential:

First: One must not assume that this war has come to an end. The confrontation with the global arrogance continues. Therefore, any propagation of hopelessness, weakness, deadlock, or demoralization among the people, officials, and armed forces serves the enemy's designs and runs contrary to the interests of the country and the Islamic Ummah. Of course, hope and steadfastness never mean ignoring the realities on the ground; rather, patience and perseverance are among the most vital factors for victory in divine trials.

Second: The killers and perpetrators of this great crime—whose hands are stained with the blood of that beloved martyr, commanders, officials, defenseless civilians, and innocent children—shall not remain immune from divine punishment and just retribution. This pure blood will never be forgotten, and the Islamic Ummah, within the framework of religious and legal standards, will pursue its duty in avenging the blood of these martyrs.

Third: Officials, the armed forces, and all decision-makers must, with trust in God Almighty and faith in His promises, harness all the nation's capacities and rely on the faith, patience, and steadfastness of the people to stand against the enemy with prudence, authority, and vigilance—whether on the military, diplomatic, or any other front. Experience has shown that any retreat in the face of an aggressor enemy only emboldens it toward further aggression and excessive demands.

Fourth: The Islamic Revolution is founded upon the progressive principle of Velayat-e Faqih, and it is by the blessing of this very principle that it has traversed difficult passes and overcome the numerous conspiracies of its enemies. Velayat-e Faqih in the Islamic system is the axis of unity, the guardian of the Ummah's interests, and the firm pillar of the system. Adherence to it is a universal duty and the means of safeguarding Islam and the country.

Fifth: Today, more than ever, preserving national unity and solidarity is an undeniable necessity. Differences of opinion, even if arising from sincere motives, must not provide grounds for division and the weakening of the domestic front. At the same time, esteemed officials must redouble their efforts to address the people's problems and serve them with sincerity.

I once again extend my condolences on the heartbreaking martyrdom of that beloved figure and the other martyrs of this imposed war to the sacred presence of Imam al-Mahdi (PBUH), the esteemed Leader of the Revolution, the honorable families of the martyrs, the noble Iranian nation, and all Muslims across the world. I beseech God Almighty for the elevation of their ranks and hope that, under the grace of Imam al-Asr (may God hasten his reappearance), the honor and victory of Islam and Muslims and the repulsion of the evil of enemies will be realized at the earliest.
